Tantra, is the science of knowing the infinite in and through the finite- the limited world of form. It teaches knowledge and experience of the macrocosm through the microcosm, of the unlimited by means of the limited, of supreme consciousness through individual consciousness. Through Tantra, which encompasses all aspects of life, we can use the world as a stepping stone to go 'beyond' and discover our divine nature. Thus the objective universe is utilised as a launching pad into the eternal...Tantra is also known as 'tantrica', 'kauladharma', 'kaulica' or 'kaula'. The word kaula is derived from the word 'kula' which means family, society or community. It also means 'the cosmic power of manifestation' (Shakti), and 'akula' means consciousness (Shiva), Therefore the kaula path is that which unites Shiva and Shakti" cosmic union or nirvana. The system of kaula implies simplicity of living combined with harmony between inner and outer surroundings, and acceptance of others. The dormant cosmic power in man is often referred to as 'kulakundalini'. So kauladharma is a system for unleashing the cosmic forces (kundalini or Shakti). Those who follow the path of tantra are called tantrics, kaulas or kaulicas....

Tantra is both a philosophy and a practical science, and its sublime theories become efficacious through the use of mantra, yantra and mandala. Here we shall examine the mandala from which arose the rich art of tantric iconography, temples, art, architecture and music...The mandala you create is dependent on your level of consciousness. The more evolved your consciousness, the more universal will be the mandala you create. A universal mandala is that which is created through a mind in tune with cosmic consciousness. It is therefore applicable and relevant to all mankind, whereas mandalas created by minds which are still on the individual plane, have less universal appeal and ability to invoke higher levels of consciousness in others. Moreover, certain mandalas are created by those who have transcended the material plane and have become enraptured by supra-conscious ecstasy. In tantra, mandalas have also been depicted as pictorial representations of divine forces, symbolised as theriomorphic and anthropomorphic forms....

Bhuta Shuddhi in Tantra  In the Vedas of yore there is clearly defined an ancient tantric practice, known as bhuta shuddhi. Bhuta shuddhi literally means 'cleansing or refining the physical elements', however, apart from this, its actual meaning should be considered as 'refining the underlying consciousness related to the elements'.We all know that matter is composed of five elements: earth, water, fire, air and ether. The different proportions, quintuplication, permutation and combinations of these are responsible for the formation of matter in its gross form. In the same way, the human body is also composed of these five elements.If you can develop a process to purify and separate these elements, you can return to the source of matter and discover the potential energy or subtle form behind the gross form. Just as a scientist breaks down matter into elements and finally arrives at the subtlest form, which is energy, similarly, the tantric or yogi purifies his gross body elements and finally realises the ultimate source of matter which is pure consciousness.....

Vajroli Mudra In Tantra (New) Vajra is 'thunderbolt' or 'lightning'. It is also the weapon of Lord Indra and means 'mighty one'. Vajra in this context refers to the vajra nadi which governs the uro-genital system. It is the second innermost layer of sushumna nadi. Vajra nadi is the energy flow within the spine which governs the sexual systems of the body. In mundane life it is responsible for the sexual behaviour and this aspect has been termed 'libido' by Dr. Freud and as 'orgone' by Dr. Reich. In tantric sadhana this energy is not suppressed but is awakened and redirected. OH mudras (vajroli, sahajoli and amaroli) are those which specifically sublimate sexual energy into ojas (vitality) and kundalini shakti....
