An Out-of-body Experience (OBE or sometimes OOBE), sometimes explained as a Wake-initiated lucid dream, is an experience that typically involves a sensation of floating outside of one's body and, in some cases, seeing one's physical body from a place outside one's body. The OBE is not generally long; on the order of a minute or so. However the subjective experience may be described as being much longer than the objective time which passed. sometimes ended due to a fearful feeling of getting "too far away" from the body. Many end with a feeling of suddenly "popping" or "snapping" and sometimes a "Pulling" back into their bodies, some even report being "sucked back" into physical form.many cases, people claim to have had an OBE, reported being asleep, on the verge of sleep, or having been asleep shortly before the experience.

The experience is quite common in dreams, daydreams, and memories, where we quite often take the external perspective. Some OBEs coincide with lucid dreaming. Some people experience an OBE while under the influence of an anesthetic or while semi-conscious due to trauma. Some Yogis in India are able to get OBE experiences through their Yogic practices by controlling their prana & activating certain chakras. They say the can detach their Astral bodies from their physical bodies & also sometimes make their brains undergo OBE experiences due to rising kundalini shakti. Some people have an OBE while under the influence of drugs. OBEs have been induced by  electrically stimulating the right angular gyrus (located at the juncture of the temporal and parietal lobes).*  Finally, some people experience an OBE when they are near death (near-death experiences or NDEs).

One explanation of the OBE is that consciousness is a separate entity from the body (dualism) and can exist without the body and the body without it. The disembodied consciousness can ‘see,’ ‘hear,’ ‘feel,’ ‘taste,’ and ‘smell’. Some speculate that 'mind,' 'spirit,' or 'consciousness' can operate over vast distances and perceive objects by some mysterious power not yet discovered by scientist but had been already discovered by Indian Yogis. Others think that OBE are due to brain states operating at different level & can be halluniciations .However, OBE's have been practiced for many years in several different cultures such as Indian culture since ages. The New Age Movement is widely known for promoting and using this practice.

Out of body experiences are sought after by those who desire knowledge or power in the spiritual realm, endeavor to help people, are curious, or want to be entertained. In some cases, people actually seek OBE's to cause harm to others. For the most part, an out of body experience is desired for a spiritual reason, such as reaching a higher level of consciousness or enlightenment. For Yogis Of India it is just one of the experienes one undergoes when the Great kundalani shakti has awakened & is in the state of ascension. In India Spiritual travel is a form of out-of-body experience done voluntarily by yogis to achieve a spiritual goal or to help humanity. In order to have an out-of-body experience, the astral body or consciousness of the individual must temporarily leave the physical body.During out-of-body experience, the physical senses shut down. When this occurs, an entirely new world opens up to the individual.
